Bio
Hello there! My name is Hailey DuBois, and I am a Sophomore in the Food Science program. My favorite wacky food combo is salt and vinegar chips with cottage cheese. I love to read, watch movies or shows, and do any outdoorsy activates (camping, ziplining, hiking, cliff jumping, you name it). But obviously, my favorite hobbies are baking and cooking!
Currently I’m a member of the Food Science Club and Baking Club, but am planning on joining the Slow Foods and Roamin’ With Ramen groups. Both are volunteer groups with a focus on distributing tasty food to students in need. I don’t have much industry experience yet but am planning on doing an internship this upcoming summer. Before learning about the food science major offered here on campus, I was planning on going to culinary school at the Culinary Institute of America. But when I learned about the major and its program here in Madison, I was so excited to be able to apply because I’d be combining my two favorite subjects. I enjoy getting to close the gaps between food science, sustainability, and nutrition within my classes to better understand how they intertwine with one another.
I haven’t been in the progarm very long, but I can say that it’s very welcoming and supportive! Everyone is excited to meet new members and talk nerdy about food, I was actually thrown off by it when I first joined. There is an overarching array of opportunities and experiences waiting here for students to experience, ranging from lab work to meat classes to beer tasting. I hope to see you around campus this academic year!
