Grand Opening of Babcock Hall Dairy Store
A grand opening and dedication ceremony was held July 31, 2001, at the recently renovated Babcock Hall Dairy Store. The event featured an ice cream social with complimentary ice cream cups for all guests. The ice cream was distributed at a tent located on the lawn of Russell Laboratory immediately across the street from the Dairy Store. Guests appreciated the cool treat and chilled spring water with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees. Professor emeritus Joe von Elbe was the master of ceremony for the event. Alice in Dairyland reminded visitors of the importance of the Department of Food Science and the Dairy Plant to Wisconsin's food industry. Professor von Elbe recognized John and Donna Hansen whose generous gift made the renovation possible. Following the ribbon cutting, guests followed the Hansens into the dairy store to view the store and visit with alumni and Food Science staff.
