Assistant/Associate Professor of Food & Bioprocess Engineering

Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Position Description: A 9-month research (60%) and instruction (40%) appointment. Incumbent will have a part-appointment in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering. Incumbent will work in the area of food process engineering, sustainable food processing, or conversion of biomaterials for bio-energy. Specific areas may include: thermodynamic and transport properties of food systems; rheological modeling; reaction kinetics; novel processing and preservation methods; packaging; and process engineering for more healthy, energy efficient, and sustainably-produced food products. Bio-energy may include solving problems with conversion of biomaterials, and prudent utilization of bio-resources for bio-energy production. Preference will be given to candidates whose research expertise complements existing activities in the two Departments.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will show evidence of and/or potential to develop: a strong, nationally recognized, competitively funded research program; teach an undergraduate course in food engineering unit operations; develop an advanced/graduate course in their field of expertise; and contribute to the instructional, outreach, extension and service functions of the two Departments, College, and University.
Requirements: Earned doctorate in Food Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering or related area is required. Post-doctoral experience is highly desirable.
